CHAPTER-1

[APPLICATION AND ADVANTAGES OF ELECTRICITY]

INTRODUCTION:-Electricity is a part of human life nowadays because it is widely used source of energy. Electricity is the flow of free electrons in a circuit. There are several use of electricity in our home appliances, industries, etc.

There are two types of electricity on the basis of nature.

1.STATIC ELECTRICITY--In this electricity, the charges at in rest. This electricity is produced by the imbalance of charges by friction between two surfaces.

2.DYNAMIC ELECTRICITY--In this electricity , the charges always in moving state because it has free electrons to move.

Dynamic electricity are divided into subcategories:

(a)Alternating current[AC]:-A current which changes direction and polarity(sign) with a regular time interval.

• Ac can be generated by alternator.

(b)Direct current[DC]:-Dc energy is the flow of charge in only one direction .The direction of dc voltage does not change.

Dc can be generated from photovoltaic cells and generator.

Difference between AC and DC supply

AC supply

• The value and direction of current changes with time.

• Ac is mostly used in our home appliances.

• Ac current produced by alternator.

• The power factor of ac lies between 0 and 1.

• The frequency of ac is 50hz.

DC supply

• The value and direction of current of dc is constant, no change with time.

• Dc mostly used for our mobile battery and cell and electroplating.

• Dc current produced by generator and alternator.

• The power factor of dc current is unity.
• The frequency of dc is 0hz.         

There are a lot of benefits of electricity

1. Electric energy can be changed easily into other  forms of energy.
2. Transmission of electrical energy is easy.
3. Electricity also improve the quality of our daily work.
4. Electricity is ecofriendly.
